“AI” is of course among the top trending keywords on Google.

Now that 2024 has freshly arrived, this is a good time to share some AI trends for 2024:

1. Generative AI: The disruptive trend of the decade

Generative AI (GenAI) can generate creative content such as text, code, scripts and musical pieces. Trained on seas of data, GenAI models can learn patterns in the data and use those patterns to generate new outputs.

Images in this article were generated by AI. But note that the text was written by a human!

While generative AI cannot replace writers and graphic designers altogether, it speeds up the process dramatically. And this trend of generative AI speeding up work applies to almost all jobs and activities.

Gartner predicts by 2026, over 80% of enterprises will be incorporating generative AI applications, up from less than 5% currently.

This is like, would you abandon the calculator and calculate cosine and sine by hand?

2. BYOAI

There is the possibility GenAI returns false information. That false output is known as hallucination, a growing concern. Hence the demand for related insurance coverage is expected to rise.

Insurers have begun to offer AI hallucination insurance and the market is projected to grow rapidly in the coming years.

4. More personalization

With AI, our interaction with technology can be even more personalized. Personalized user experience is a key to sales conversion.

Gartner predicts by 2026, a third of all new apps will use AI to create personalized and adaptive user interfaces, up from just about 5% today.

5. AI jobs

New AI jobs are emerging, such as:

  • AI product manager

  • AI engineer, e.g. AI research scientist, business intelligence developer, machine learning engineer

  • AI ethicist

  • AI input and output manager

  • AI compliance officer

  • AI human-computer interaction (HCI) designer

6. AI-powered online search

AI algorithms can tailor results to our preferences so that we can get more relevant and timely information, in which:

  • contextual understanding ensures more accuracy;

  • conversational search enables human-like interactions with search engines;

  • visual search allows users to search using images or videos.

However, while some are open to adopting AI in Internet search, others prefer the traditional way. According to a survey conducted by Statista in February 2023, around 39% of respondents claimed they would not trust AI-powered search engines to respect their data privacy. The mistrust also stemmed from concerns about bias and misinformation.

7. More AI in customer service?

Adding AI and automation to the customer service process can help companies save money and improve efficiency.

Companies can use AI to enhance customer experience—really?

Gartner reported while customer service leaders were optimistic about using AI, some consumers expressed reluctance to interact with chatbots, casting doubt on the near future of AI in customer service.

AI, nevertheless, is making the jobs of human customer service representatives easier and more efficient.
